Camoenae Hungaricae

Camoenae Hungaricae is a yearbook of the Institute for Literary Studies, formerly a research institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, belonging today to the Research Centre for the Humanities, Budapest.

We had been planning publication of this periodical for quite a long time—one that would provide an appropriate international forum to present Hungarian neo-Latin philology. This seemed all the more necessary when Hungary was given the privilege of hosting the Thirteenth Congress of the International Association for Neo-Latin Studies (2006). The yearbook started, at last, in 2004, and had a significant role in promoting the research around the centuries of neo-Latin literacy on the territories of the medieval and early modern Kingdom of Hungary and Transylvania, that is, in many countries of today Central Europe.

The yearbook was launched by the editors of the
Irodalomtörténeti Közlemények (Publications on the History of Literature, Publications d’histoire littéraire, Literaturhistorische Mitteilungen, Rassegna di storia letteraria), a periodical in Hungarian, established in 1891, published by the Institute for Literary Studies. That periodical has always had problems of Hungarian Latin studies in its focus.

We greet our Readers on behalf of the Editors and of the Institute for Literary Studies. We hope Pannon Muses can stand on their own feet.
